Botanical Gardens, Georgetown


The Georgetown Botanical Gardens was conceptualized in 1877 and over a number of years the land was prepared to become a Botanical and Horticultural Garden in the City of Georgetown. In 1885, the kissing bridge was imported and constructed to span the artificial drainage lakes in the Gardens.

Botanical Gardens Bandstand, Georgetown


The Bandstand of the Botanic Gardens was built in 1899 and dedicated to John Brumell who was one of the Directors of the garden. He also held administrative office as a salaried British Magistrate and Sheriff in Demerara. The image shows the Bandstand in British Guiana.
