The
building with the tower was the Royal Agricultural and Commercial
Society (RA&CS) building, a well-stocked private library for the
planters and elites of British Guiana around the 1900s. The Society produced a journal titled "Timehri" which is a Carib word signifying marks or figures that are etched on rocks and used to express ideas. The image below shows the RA&CS in the 1900s. The "Great Fire" of February 23rd 1945 completely destroyed this building.
